Research & Development
The Research & Development (R&D) department is responsible for researching, validating and specifying new operational concepts, tools and supporting technologies, covering all aspects of NATS’ service. It focuses on identifying and developing solutions that can be effectively linked into NATS’ strategic plans and subsequent development programmes.
The R&D department undertakes a wide variety of projects developing tools and technologies to support NATS in enhancing capacity, safety and efficiency of airspace. We also play a significant role in the European air traffic management research agenda through major European Commission projects, and we actively collaborate with Eurocontrol through external business contracts. R&D is a critically important activity within NATS, shaping the way we will work in the future.
