Operational Analysis (OA)
Operational Analysis (OA) provides a range of expert analytical skills to support operational performance monitoring and performance improvement initiatives within NATS. The main areas in which the department undertakes analyses are strategic analysis, safety analysis, airspace capacity, runway capacity and environment.
The department is therefore split into three service delivery lines. Here is an overview of each of these service delivery lines:
Current Operations Analysis
Leads the customer focus for 'Understanding Today'. This isn't just about ensuring that customer requests are delivered; it's about being advocates for the customer through understanding and challenging. This ensures that the best knowledge and skills within OA are being used to help customers achieve their objectives.
Strategic Operations Analysis
Supports and influences the effectiveness of our decision-making by providing impartial operational, business and performance analysis of future concepts, developments and investments. This is achieved through the targeted delivery of analysis from OA staff with a wide range of experience and expertise that covers safety, capacity, plus environmental modelling and analysis.
External Operations Analysis
OA undertakes a significant programme of external business through consultancy and data services. This both generates a profit for NATS and maintains the department's reputation for expert operational analysis across the broader aviation industry.
Activities include a broad portfolio of analytical and simulation modelling support functions. Both 'commercial off the shelf' and bespoke software tools are used, together with the application of rigorous analysis in order to provide key supporting evidence that actively assists in helping our customers make informed business decisions.
Capability & Strategy
This area of the department concentrates on making sure OA has the right people, tools, data and techniques to deliver the analysis our customers need today and in the future. This people and technical capability is delivered to customers through our service lines.
